fantastic films and where to watch them!
I have been dangling these lovely films at you without telling you where to find them. It's time to fix that!
Hello darling subscribers, who I love as if they were my own children.
The main feedback I get from you all (other than you love my work!!! duh!) is that it can be hard to access the films I review. I must admit, I live a blessed existence with my Cineville pass, which gets me unlimited films at every indie cinema in the Netherlands for €18,50 a month. It is, without a doubt, the best thing that has ever happened to me. I watch 90% of films in the cinema and it’s amazing.
So for Dutch readers - get Cineville! And when you do, text me and we can go catch some fun stuff together!
For the rest of you who are sadly/mercifully located outside the Netherlands (delete as appropriate), there are other ways. MUBI, Curzon, and BFI are good services for film buffs, along with the usual Netflix/Disney/HBO/Amazon/Google/YouTube suspects. But there are also… other ways.
For the record, I am not advocating that you do any of the things I am about to say, I am just putting that information out there and you can do what you want with it. It’s best to disregard it and then set your laptop alight just to be on the safe side.
I may or may not use the media centre platform Streamio to watch things (honestly, mostly binge watching Broad City AGAIN or revisiting bits of films I’m reviewing to refresh my memory or to get a cool still from the film. By which I mean, I obviously do neither of those things, ever). Its software where you can watch things from multiple streaming platforms, in one place. You can find instructions for how to download Streamio and use it in an above board fashion here and also here. I would definitely never direct you towards Reddit for further instructions. Nope. Don’t click on it!
My promise to you, my little sausages, is that from now on I will provide links at the bottom of my reviews for you all!
For now, here are some links for where to find the films I’ve reviewed so far, and a few that are coming soon, plus trailers. Listings are for the UK and the Netherlands, the rest of you must venture into your local screenings at your peril. I hope that you can go indulge in the ravenous curiosity which my reviews hopefully pique in you.
Godland
UK showtimes via Flicks, showing in London at the ICA and Curzon Bloomsbury. Elsewhere in the UK: Manchester, Derby, Coventry, Chester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Knutsford, Lewes, Bristol, Oxford, Falmouth, Aldeburgh, Stamford, Colchester, Canterbury, Sheffield, Bradford, Lancaster, Stockton-on-Tees, etc etc. Showing in the Netherlands (this week only, as it’s been on for a while) in Amsterdam, Groningen, and Zwolle via Cineville. Plus on Curzon’s online player, and at The Institut Francais Cine Lumiere in London, which has some great films on its programme!
Saint-Omer
Again, Flicks is handy. In the UK it’s only showing in Brentford TOMORROW (15th April) and in Fordingbridge (no idea where that is) on June 28th. Slim pickings! But online via Curzon, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, and Amazon Prime.
Nostalgia
Nostalgia is only showing in Winksworth (??) on April 24th and 25th. In the Netherlands, showing in Amsterdam and Zierikzee via Cineville. But available in the usual online places - Curzon, Apple TV, YouTube, Google Play, and Amazon Prime.
L’Immensita
Literally not showing anywhere in the UK or streaming anywhere. Madness!! Thankfully showing in 26 cinemas in the Netherlands, listings here. Sorry Brits, you’re going to have to be shady to watch Penelope Cruz be gorgeous and Italian here.
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Showing in the UK in: Straford (London, not Warwickshire), Royston, Peckhamplex (this weekend only!), Nottingham, and Folkstone. Flicks is, yet again, your friend. It had already stopped showing in the Netherlands (cries hysterically). Online: Amazon Prime and Apple TV. Please go and watch it. Marcel will cry a puddle bigger than himself AGAIN if you don’t.
Close
Showing in the UK in: Liphook (?), Manchester, Stamford, Wilmslow, Pershore, Buxton, Barnes, Portobello Road, Reading, Falmouth, Penrith, Stockton-on-Tees, and Leeds. I think that’s all, Flicks can help you out. Already done in the Netherlands I’m afraid. Streaming wise, only on MUBI, from next week. Worth the faff, even if you might drown in your own tears in the process.
Snow and the Bear
Literally nowhere. You’re on your own. Good luck.
Please leave a comment if you’ve managed to go and catch one of these films in the cinema, or on a streaming service. I would love to hear whether you enjoyed them or if you have any feedback of your own! All I want to do is talk about films every day until I die (preferably in a cinema).
Luuuuurve you all,
Celeste x
