L’Immensità is now showing in England!
sorry to Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, no Penelope Cruz for you
U.K. based readers, I’ve got some good news!
The charming Italian film L’Immensità is now showing in a rather small selection of towns in England. It was basically impossible to find in this green and pleasant land [citation needed] when I went to see it, so I’m thrilled that it’s now showing in more places. You can find listings near you on Flicks or stream it on Curzon Home Cinema. Apologies to friends in the devolved nations for the lack of screenings.
L’Immensità is the story of a family in 1970s Rome, where mother Clara and child Andrea feel like outsiders but find solace in each other. Clara, originally from Spain, has a joie de vivre about her that the other stuffy Italian mothers around her seem to lack, and she loves to get lost in fantasies with her children and sing and dance around the house. Andrea, assigned female at birth, is questioning his gender identity and struggling to understand his place in the strict Catholic gender binary of 1970s Italy. Clara and Andrea try to navigate the world around them in all of its beauty, but cannot freely be themselves under the iron fist of Clara’s husband, a controlling abuser. It sort of looks like it’s going to be a film about exploring trans youth, but it’s more about Clara than the trailer suggests. Either way, the performance from Cruz is magical as always, the children - who are not professional actors - bring their own personalities to the table, and the hazy days of the 1970s and the beautiful setting of Rome make it a very nice watch.
L’Immensità is now showing in:
Hebden Bridge! Birmingham! Leicester! Oxford! Dalston! Acton! Crouch End! and Kensal Rise!
